This article responds to Cowan et al.'s critique of our ‘Losing sight women's rights: the unregulated introduction gender self-identification as a case study policy capture in Scotland’, published by Scottish Affairs 28(3) August 2019. al. make series strong criticisms, including accuracy, diligence and adherence scholarly norms. We reject these unreasonable.
